Montague Grocery ThiefMontague RCMP are on the look out for a grocery thief who recently stole groceries from two local food retailers.

The male suspect went to the Montague Superstore on Jan. 25 and proceeded to load a basket full of product before leaving the store without paying.

It is believed the man was in an SUV-type vehicle when he left the area.

Two days later the same man entered the Montague Sobey’s, but this time he grabbed a cart, loaded it full of food and left the store. Employees attempted to intervene, but the suspect ran off leaving the cart in the parking lot. The value of the cart-load of groceries was over $500.

News of these two thefts comes after Montague town council voted to scrap a 20-year agreement with the RCMP to have three officers dedicated to the town. Council will now approach the province to work out a deal to have one officer in the town.

If anyone has any information about this investigation, or can identify the male shown in the pictures, they are asked to contact the Montague RCMP detachment (Cst. Jamie Parsons) at (902) 838-9300 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
